How reliable is a window?

Timing confidence comes from a backtest on four winters (2022–2026, about 150 storm days) against radar-measured precipitation: "held" means the forecast dry spell on the summit really was dry, give or take an hour. The road calls (chains possible, likely, closure risk) use snowfall rate, how much is sticking and ground temperature. Those thresholds are estimates until this winter's Caltrans chain-control log lets us score them.

Storm Gap forecasts weather and likely road impact, not official road status. Chain controls and closures are set by Caltrans and CHP and can stay in place after snow stops. Always obey them. Data: NOAA HRRR, National Blend of Models and NEXRAD (via Iowa Environmental Mesonet), NASA GIBS GOES-West, Caltrans CWWP. Beta feedback: email Gabe.
